Aniceto Pension, Budget Accommodation in Puerto Princesa

Aniceto was suggested to me by my boyfriend's sister who stayed there during her Palawan trip. I emailed several budget accommodation places just to have an option and upon reading replies from these pension houses,  I booked a room for three adults, that's with one double bed and a single bed. The room is air conditioned with hot and cold shower. There's no television inside the room. We paid Php900 per night for the three of us.

The pension house's location is a short walk from the Puerto Princesa Cathedral and Plaza Cuartel. It's not far from Rizal Ave which is the main street of the city. I appreciate the fact that it is accessible and a lot of tricycles are passing the area.

The room has very basic facilities. There's a table with a chair and closets to store our things. The pension house as a whole is kind of cute, not to mention homey. It truly stands for their tag: Aniceto's Pension - A blend of Home and Nature. At the rooftop is a garden of different ornamental and flowering plants that made the place look and feel even cooler. Chairs and tables are set up so guests can relax while enjoying the view of the sea feeling the cool breeze. It's a small nook perfect for a bottle of beer or a cup of coffee shared with new found friends. :)

The other half of the rooftop was converted into a kitchen where guests are allowed to use the fridge, the stove,  plus cooking and eating utensils for free. That's where I cooked the kuracha (a kind of crab that looks like an lobster) we bought from Pandan Island during our island hopping tour. While I'm preparing it, we've met Tonio, a Spanish solo traveler who was doing a backpacking trip in our country. He was preparing his ginger tea at the other burner of the stove and we managed to share some chit chats. We offered him to try the kuracha with us not knowing he is a chef in profession. I hope my steamed kuracha in calamansi and butter sauce made justice. hahaha!!!

The pension house is lovely. It also has a reading area with fiction and practical books. This area has a comfy couch that I could probably fall asleep in while reading. The absence of  TVs in each room is made up by the television placed in the common seating area. The faces I've met in the pension house (mostly were foreigners) were all friendly, including Ms. Tess, the owner who I felt has a personalized relationship with her guests.

We stayed there for two nights and had a good night sleep. For solo travelers, they offer a nightly rate of Php350 for a non-AC room and Php500 for an AC room. You can contact them through these numbers. This is not a paid review.
